[mp3] New from White Denim // Hot Thought

white denim1 [mp3] New from White Denim // Hot Thought

While it might not have been as good as their previous effort, Fits, White Denim’s May album D was certainly a solid effort.  And if a new album wasn’t enough in 2011 from them, they’re gearing up to release a new EP via Downtown Records on October 25th, this one entitled Your Work Space.  The Austin, TX foursome are masters at progressive, noisy jams, and they have never been afraid to put out a lot of music, trying out different textures and styles with each different release.  Not everything works, and sometimes it comes out as uneven or unfocused, but more often than not it does work.  And when it works, it’s fantastic.

Along with the announcement of the EP comes a slew of tour dates through the end of November, none of which has the band hitting Rochester, or Buffalo, or Syracuse.  The closest they’re coming is Pittsburgh, on a Friday, so that might be do-able.  We’ll have to see.  In the meantime, to tide you and I over until the EP’s release, the band is giving away a track from it.  It’s called “Hot Thought” and it’s an tune T-Pain would be proud of, once again proving that White Denim does whatever the hell they want.  You can grab it below.

[mp3/tour] Cloud Nothings Announce Midwest/West Coast Tour Dates

Cloud Nothings [mp3/tour] Cloud Nothings Announce Midwest/West Coast Tour DatesCloud Nothings have had a buzz surrounding him/them for what seems like forever already.  Granted, forever in the blog world is not an unbounded amount of time like it is for the remainder of humanity, so that statement should be taken with a grain of salt.  We posted about the band back in April, and they’re still generating considerable chatter with their blurry rock.

This track – “Hey Cool Kid” – has been making the rounds for a while, but I’ve never gotten around to posting it.  With the announcement that the band has a handful of dates lined up around the Midwest and West Coast over the next couple of weeks, now seemed like a good time to do so.  In addition to their brief tour, the band has also been recording their first official full-length. (Turning On, their release from earlier in the year, was a compilation of their previous vinyl singles and cassette only releases.)  Look for that in early 2011.

Check out the upcoming dates over at the band’s MySpace, and grab Turning On in preparation.  While you’re at it, the band recorded a session over at Daytrotter as well that you should pick up as well.

Coldplay To Give Away Live Album

art leftrightleftrightleft Coldplay To Give Away Live AlbumThis is a nice gift for anyone going attending the upcoming North American leg of Coldplay‘s tour:

“…Coldplay will be giving away a live CD, LeftRightLeftRightLeft, at every remaining live show in 2009 (apart from festival shows). Starting with the band’s first North American tour date, at West Palm Beach in Florida on May 15th, every fan attending a show will be given a free copy of the nine-track CD, which won’t be available elsewhere.”

Not attending one of the shows?  Have no fear, because the band has your back too:

“Also on May 15th, LeftRightLeftRightLeft will be made available as a free download right here at coldplay.com, for all fans (and for the same time period).”

Hate or love Coldplay, it’s always nice when a band gives back to the people who got them to where they are.  The tracklisting for LeftRightLeftRightLeft is available here.
