[mp3/mystery] The Selfish Replicators – The White Lady Loves You More (Elliot Smith Cover)

l ff4092721f294f56b0725f73940df80f [mp3/mystery] The Selfish Replicators The White Lady Loves You More (Elliot Smith Cover)A while back we were sent a song from The Selfish Replicators.  The accompanying message was short and cryptic, offering no real information about the band beyond their name and a sparsely populated MySpace page.  And I loved the song, entitled “Strands.”  A few other blogs posted the song as well, but nothing else surfaced about or from the band.  Without much for anyone to go on, any speculation that was started soon dissipated.

And then the other day, as I was going through our inbox, I found another email from the band that I had missed.  Now over a month old, it contained an Elliot Smith cover, and a message similar to the first one we’d received.

Hello there,

A Selfish cover for you.

cheers

While the mystery of the whole thing is fun (although not very compelling at this point), if the band keeps proffering tracks as good as these first two have been, eventually I’d imagine someone is going to crack and spoil the fun.  Or at least I’m hoping they do.

So I received a rather cryptic e-mail the other morning – just a salutation, one line, a website, cover art, and this song:

“Hello!

The Selfish Replicators are a covert side-project of some band.

A Google search yields nothing of consequence beyond a probable explanation of the band’s moniker, and their MySpace doesn’t give anything else.  The song itself is a woozy, electro delight – as mysterious as its makers.  The vox immediately brings to mind Starflyer 59 (for me), and I’m into it.  If you’ve got more information, let me know.  I’m appropriately intrigued.
