This week is home of the under-the-radar type releases, with the interesting ones (at least to me) from Monsters of Folk, Noisettes, Islands and The Pains of Being Pure at Heart EP. (If you’ve been paying attention, you know that Amazon already has the Monsters of Folk available for download. And even if you weren’t, you can still get it early if you so desire.)
Anyway, check the full list over at Amazon if you were looking for something that you don’t see listed here. As always, grab a couple of memory-jogging tracks after the list, and have yourself an excellent week.
Congrats to Ryan for our favorite answer in regards to Amie Street Giveaway #3. His copy will be gifted shortly. Stay tuned next week for our next giveaway.
Living in a list-loving society and it being nearly the half-way point of the year, lots of folks are listing the best records of the year so far. We’ve already done it here but I wanted to add my two cents to the so called best-of for 2009. So grab yourself a bunch of crap if you don’t already have it and enjoy.
Andy already mentioned Dirty Projectors, Animal Collective and Grizzly Bear. It’s all very preliminary and I haven’t thought about it much, but on my own personal list the Grizzly Bear record is high up there, M.P.P. probably isn’t that high up and I’m holding out for the time being on D.P.’s very recent release. Without over thinking it I would have to add the excellent Pains of Being Pure at Heart record to my list somewhere, along with the new Doves and Passion Pit. I’ve enjoyed several others I could add, but those three I felt were my necessary additions to the conversation, even if they don’t make my official year-end list.
So he are my favorites off those three ’09 records, along with an extra song off Veckatimest.

Basically, it sounded like a cool name for a blog intended to be primarily about music. We’d both had other blogs previously, but over beers it was decided that more damage could be done as a joint venture. And here we are.
We share a passion for the undiscovered and under-appreciated, and hope that you’ll be able to find something you love as well.

I like music. I can't describe how I came to like the music I do, because I don't know how or why, I just do.
Many years ago, Napoleon's brother, my great-great-great-great-great-great Grandfather, came to America. He was asked his name on Ellis Island while being processed as an immigrant. Not understanding English, he was under the impression that he was being asked how he had arrived in the new land. So he turned around and pointed at the sea vessel and said, 'LaBarge.'

I come by my music taste of my own free will. My friends listened to 2Pac, my parents to contemporary Christian and me? Sunny Day Real Estate. I can’t explain it.
