I read an assessment recently regarding Dum Dum Girls that essentially said Sub Pop attached themselves to the band in an effort to avoid missing out on the Lo-Fi craze. The thinking being that the genre is thriving at the moment and Sub Pop found themselves without an entry into the craze, so they went out and got a slice of the pie while the trend was still hot.
Personally, I only have two tracks – ‘Jail La La’ and another off a previous EP entitled ‘D.A.L.’ I didn’t find much in either song to be all that interesting, and certainly not enough to be enticed to purchase the album. Then again, I don’t enjoy a large swath of the Lo-Fi out there, and this band hasn’t changed my mind like some others in the genre have.
