I must admit my enjoyment of Wolf Gang’s “Lions In Cages” is likely due to my tastes being particularly attuned at the moment to the catchy synth-pop that is dominating recent music. Finding its way back into my head due to WITR playing it regularly, the song has not left my consciousness (nor unconsciousness) for the last several weeks. I’ve found it rattling about inside my vacuous head and wondering why. While from 2010, we’ve surprisingly never written about the track specifically. This attempt to reconcile that fact with our population of readers that may not have had the chance to absorb its charms, is anything but timely.

The only other instance in which we’ve mentioned the London outfit was last year when mentioning the dissimilar, but no less impressive, “Back to Back.” On “Lions In Cages” frontman Max McElligott declines to hide the Oracular Spectacular era MGMT inspiration, what with floating synths, its soaring chorus, and the dramatic swoons in the beat. I may not have given it a proper chance the first go round, but I envision it being a difficult trial to evict this catchy tune from my head this time.
