Following up with what was started with Joywave, tympanogram is proud to announce our second release. Working with bands from our own area who we believe represent the best of what our city’s eclectic music scene has to offer, we are ecstatic to be a part of the debut release from Rochester’s Old Tapes.
Old Tapes is comprised of frontwoman Lisa Kribs, her brother Michael and David McGinnis. All three are stalwarts of the local DJ scene, and their debut EP, entitled This Is Goodbye, bears the hallmarks of that experience. It’s synth-laden, angular rock that alternates from sneering to endearing and back.
This Is Goodbye is released digitally today, and is available on their Bandcamp page for $5. In addition, there will be 1000 7” singles pressed of two songs on the EP: the A-side “Farewell” that feels like the impending change of seasons, and it’s danceable B-side “What I Need Tonite.” Both tracks are available.
The 7” will run you $7, but it comes with an instant download of the entire EP. (You may as well pay the extra $2 and get something collectable.) Pre-orders will commence today, and are available through the tympanogram store. We are hopeful that the single will be available to ship in mid-October, but based on our previous experience with the Joywave pressing, we’re not going to give a firm date.
If you’re around Rochester, the trio is opening for Class Actress on Friday, September 9th at Bug Jar, and heading up another show at Bug Jar on Thursday, September 29th. Come on out and show your support.
