[video] Arctic Monkeys // On A Mission (Katy B Cover)

Katy B is criminally underrated, especially in this country. Her brand of radio-friendly dance pop should be immensely more popular, but for some reason, it isn’t. Her debut record On A Mission was released last year. It garnered many positive reviews and charted highly in the UK, but not on this side of the ocean. Regardless, I can’t recommend it enough. (This little rant had very little to do with the video I am writing about, but it needed to be said, nonetheless.)

The Arctic Monkeys are cheeky fellows. And the BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge offers a perfect in which to display this cheekiness. Alex and the boys give us an unexpected rendition of the Katy B dance number. (And this cover quickly moves into the pantheon of past greatness such as Foals’ singing Gwen Stefani’s “Hollaback Girl”.) The booming and poppy dance bassline have been replaced with something nearly as bouncy but now much more retro (and obviously male…which could begin a weird debate about gender politics, but we will avoid that). Enjoy.
