With the weather already having turned here in Rochester, and the rain gutters filling with orange and yellow leaves, I’ve been feeling the need to listen to Bon Iver again. There’s something comfortable and worn-in about his music, and putting For Emma, Forever Ago on just feels right when you’re putting storm windows down, saving up the warmth left over from the summer in preparation for what lies ahead.
When it comes to this particular song, I like this version better. It seems a little quicker in pace, but at the same time, it’s far more heartbreaking; you can hear his voice cracking while he’s singing. And the extended instrumental middle is beautiful in and of itself.
