A while back when I ordered a record from Insound I signed up for the weekly free mp3 download from them. To this point I haven’t found much I wasn’t already aware of or that I have actually enjoyed. The most recent rec was Thee Oh Sees’ “I Was Denied.” I had heard of the band, yet to this point had not gotten anything other than one track I found on my computer that was never listened to. Since this is not about my listening and downloading habits, I’ll be succinct in stating I dug the song. It’s pretty straightforward, yet ultimately very enjoyable, garage-pop and it is preferable to much of the lo-fi dregs unleashed upon the world recently.
The band appears to be very prolific, having released an album a year for the last few just under the Thee Oh Sees moniker, and with a few other albums mixed in under different spellings (OCS and OhSees). Soon I’ll likely make the effort of sifting through the band’s impressive back catalogue to determine what might be worth my time, but for now I’m content taking this track in.
