Being a consumer of the blogosphere myself, I have an abundance of single songs from bands – without any memory of where I got it, or what the band is about. This makes for some hidden gems while I’m skimming through my collection; songs I’ve owned for an unknown amount of town suddenly turn up, sounding fresh and interesting.
The Walkup hails/hailed from New York, NY (who doesn’t), and their album Down on Pacific was released in 2008. There’s nothing more recent than June of 2008 on their MySpace blog, their website doesn’t seem to be working, and a Google search brings up songs that baseball players use when they come up to bat. You can get their album brand new for as little as $0.01 (plus shipping) on Amazon if you’re interested.
The one song I have from them is “Looks Like We Haven’t Learned a Thing,” and it bears markings similar to the angular garage rock revival from a couple of years ago. And while the specific style may no longer be en vogue, it’s still an excellent song.
