The Sounds

A few years ago, as best as I can recall, I read a positive review of The Sounds’ debut Living In America. I went out and bought it and, as was my tradition, opened it to listen immediately in my car. Upon hearing the shrieking sounds emitted from my crappy car stereo I must have been unable to avoid the supremely foul expression perched upon my face because my girlfriend burst out laughing. I mean this shit was wretched. I listened for another few seconds and skipped the song though my reaction to the next several songs were of the same variety. Disgusted, I removed the cd from the player and probably cursed repeatedly about wasting money while being a poor college student. It was not a pleasant purchase.

So imagine my surprise when a while back I heard this song and was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it. The elements haven’t changed much, but clearly to my ears there has been some improvement. I haven’t rethought my initial reaction to the band as of yet but that is pending a repeat listen to their debut or one of their subsequent efforts. Until I rethink things I’m content to enjoy this song alone.
