Was there ever a band more quickly maligned than The Killers?  (Maybe Vampire Weekend.)  I found their first album almost wholly refreshing amidst the garage-rock reinvigoration of 6 or 7 years ago.  But after their first album, I haven’t been interested in anything else they’ve released.  None of the lead singles from any of the albums sounded interesting; instead of fresh and exciting, it all seemed sort of boring to me.

Was I wrong about their first album?  Was it equally as boring as I’ve found their subsequent material and I was just unaware?  Or have they, rather, come back down into the land of the middling?  I think the latter, but that’s only because I’m into self-preservation.
