Devonté Hynes wears many hats; he played in the band Test Icicles while they were in existence; he released music under the name Lightspeed Champion for a while (and may again); he’s produced material for the likes of Basement Jaxx, Theophilus London and Florence + The Machine. (From the looks of the cover of his new single, he may also be a part-time stripper.) Now, Hynes has also found time to release music under the Blood Orange moniker. In fact, his first album as Blood Orange, Coastal Grooves, was released last August, but now is the first I’m hearing of it.

The reason I’m just hearing about the release now is because Domino is putting out the next single from the album, the lead cut, entitled “Forget It,” otherwise I may have just missed it altogether. The track is a completely winsome introduction to what Hynes is doing with Blood Orange, incorporating a ripping guitar solo amidst the repetition of Hynes singing “I am not your savior” in the most convincing manner he can. It’s as easygoing as the wind blowing in from the ocean in the summer, and it makes me wonder what I’m missing with the rest of Coastal Grooves.

The single for “Forget It” will be released on March 12th through Domino Records. No pre-order information is available as far as I can find.
