An easily transparent mark of an indelible album, is the feeling that with each subsequent song you perch your ears to, you wonder if you are listening to the best that particular album has to offer. At any one moment in listening to Deerhunter’s latest masterpiece, Halcyon Digest, I think I’ve heard the best to be offered. But then a song or two later something even more spectacular demands my attention. If you were to ask me at varying moments which song I would consider my favorite, I would have to take pause and remember that which I listened to most recently, before I then told you to ask me again in five minutes. At alternating times, “Desire Lines,” “He Would Have Laughed,” and the song I’m using today are possible favorites. And that isn’t mentioning the gorgeously floating “Helicopter,” or the saxophone influence wonder that is “Coronado.” Not that I should be surprised, but my love of this album somehow surpassed my expectations.

On a different note, with Strangers in Stereo shitting the bed we no longer have our weekly outlet to convey our most-listened to songs of the previous week. You can bet your ass Halcyon Digest was in another stratosphere than the rest of what we (me in particular) listened to this past week. As for the rest of the top five: Harlem, Local Natives, The Static Jacks and The Dads.
