 [mp3] Wye Oak // Spiral

I’ve had the darndest time with coming up what “Spiral” reminds me of. The latest in Adult Swim’s 2012 singles, “Spiral” is helmed by Baltimore duo Wye Oak. My recognition issue specifically is with the rolling, rhythmic guitar chimes that open the track. The answer has been at the tip of my brain for hours now, yet I’ve not come up with anything resembling satisfaction for a suitable comparison.

Considering I could swear I’ve heard them used elsewhere almost exactly alike, the chords may not be entirely unique, but that doesn’t lessen their appeal. Gone on “Spiral” are the drastic tempo and volume shifts Wye Oak has come to be known for, as here things are relatively unwavering for the most part and the tempo changes have smoother transitions. Following the opening notes, there are familiar Wye Oak moments but the track is certainly an interesting change of direction.

Be sure to keep up with the Adult Swim singles since good things have come thus far.
