I know Andy just wrote about Wild Nothing quite recently, but his write-up prompted my memory regarding the first exposure I received to the band, namely, their cover of Kate Bush’s “Cloudbusting.” It is an incredible feat that this cover only barely makes me wish I was listening to Bush’s seminal original. The original song is so wonderful, I even derive base enjoyment out of Utah Saints’ “Something Good,” which uses a sample of Bush’s vocals quite prominently, albeit served in a completely different package.
Based on his work thus far, Jack Tatum is clearly both fond of and adept at making this dramatic dream-pop, and is intimately familiar with his predecessors. Luckily with “Cloudbusting” he has honored one such predecessor so skillfully.
