The last time I heard anything from New York’s Violens was over at I Am Fuel, You Are Friends back in March of 2009 in Heather’s round-up of bands she’d checked out at SXSW that year. The track – “Violet Sensation Descends” from their debut EP – was a kind of hazy revisiting of mid-1960′s pop, sunny and bright.
With the announcement of their new album, their sound has washed away all traces of that first impression, opting for a more Muse/Doves dark anthemic sound than what they had previously crafted. It still works, but if your only impression of the band was their previous EP, it may take some getting used to.
Their debut full-length Amoral will be released on November 2 via Friendly Fire Recordings. They also have a mixtape out that you can grab for an e-mail address over at their website. Also, they’ll be touring around the release of the new album as well, although they seem to be concentrating on NYC and the UK at this point. Keep an eye out for a Stateside tour as well.
