Via Pitchfork comes a remix of Deerhunter’s brand new track “Helicopter,” done up by Manchester producer Star Slinger. He has remixed quite a few other affairs, many of which are available for free on his site along with some other tracks from the man.
Pitchfork has a decidedly more positive slant on the Deerhunter mix than I. I wouldn’t go so far to say I dislike it, but far and away the most intriguing bit of the remix are those parts most readily identifiable as derived from the original. That isn’t always the case with remixes for me. Star Sling took the song in a new direction, which many of the best remixes do, just not a direction I love. I mostly just wanted to listen to the original again, and that is the tell tale sign I’m not in love with a remix.
