[mp3] Tennis // Tears In The Typing Pool

Before hearing Tennis’ version of “Tears In The Typing Pool,” I wasn’t aware of the original version from British band Broadcast. Released in 2005 on the band’s final album, Tender Buttons, the original version is a stark, sparse track, and Tennis’ re-work of the song doesn’t do much to make it their own, or make it much different, for that matter.

That fact, in and of itself, isn’t particularly bad because it’s led me to further exploration of a band I wasn’t aware of. But if you were already a fan of Broadcast, this cover might feel unnecessary.

Tennis’ sophomore album, entitled simply Origins, is due out on February 14th. There are no pre-order options that I can find at this point, but the band has a grip of tour dates lined up after the album’s release, which are available on their website.
