Shoreline Is hail from Dortmund, Germany, which looks to be about two-and-a-half hours from the closest shoreline – on the North Sea (or Nordsee, if you speak their native language). They’ve also left themselves open to a possible awkward ending to their band name, seeing as how anyone could follow up “Shoreline Is” with various unflattering nouns or phrases.
But despite their distance from the actual shore, and despite all the bad things that could be invented to use their chosen name disparagingly, the German threesome makes music that’s more than good enough to silence anyone who might poke fun at them. Their recently released EP, plainly titled Demos, is a quick, four-song jaunt on the beach, with dreamy textures washed over by waves. The band has honed in on a certain jangled sound that sounds equal parts melancholy and bright, and they do it with particular aplomb.
“I’d Hear The Clouds Move” is the last track on Shoreline Is’s Demos EP (which was released at the end of April), and it’s the most representative of what the band can do. If you’re into it, head over to the trio’s Bandcamp page to download the other three songs from the EP as well.
