Regardless of how you feel about bands using bastardized names of celebrities, Ringo Deathstarr is a pretty fantastic one. Neither The Beatles nor Star Wars have any direct connections to the band’s music that I can tell, however; their music is far more akin to the shoegaze influenced pop of The Pains of Being Pure at Heart – a kind of swirly, noisy haze of guitars that owes a debt to the recent revival of their shared genre. While TPOBPAH tend to be more of a straight-ahead pop version of it, Ringo Deathstarr is more willing to play around with the vocals, distorting them a bit, playing more with the boy/girl dynamic.
The Austin-based band’s debut, Colour Trip, was released a couple of weeks ago on March 8th, and you can get it at your favorite digital retailer, or in physical forms through the band’s website. The band doesn’t have much lined up by way of a tour, with a date in the UK and another in Japan. I’d have to think that will change, but until it does, keep your eyes on their Facebook page.
