[mp3] Introducing // Lady Lazarus – Sick Child

Lady Lazarus Mantic Cover 300x271 [mp3] Introducing // Lady Lazarus Sick Child

For those who didn’t spend their Sundays in a church pew, according to the Bible Lazarus of Bethany was raised from the dead by Jesus.  The name isn’t affiliated with too many other people, and as such it’s become synonymous with that sort of rebirth, lending its meaning to things like “Lazarus Taxon” and “Lazarus Phenomenon.”

Lady Lazarus, on the other hand, is the work of Melissa Ann Sweat.  (It’s also a poem by Sylvia Plath, yes, but for our purposes, we’re focused on the musician.)  Sweat’s music has a sort of bleary-eyed sound to it – kind of like just waking up from a nap, or – more aptly – the dead.  It’s an experimental/electronic hybrid, fit for soundtracks and contemplating the meaning of life.  Her debut album Mantic will be released on January 18th, but you can get it now through her Bandcamp page.  She also has a handful of shows lined up over the course of the month around her now-hometown of Savannah, GA, the dates for which you can check out over at her MySpace.
