There’s something almost cruel about releasing a song with the word ‘spring’ in the title at this point of the year, when the temperatures aren’t going to get out of the teens in this part of the world, and I’m daily brushing the snow from my car to get to work. (And usually again when I leave to go home.)
Hey Rosetta!, a six piece who hail from St. John’s, Newfoundland, don’t need to write their songs with my feelings in mind, however. Their new single “Yer Spring” – from their upcoming album Seeds, which will be released on February 15th – is bursting forth with the kind of energy associated with the season it recalls. It starts out inoccuously enough, but builds into something that’s brimming with life.
Going back through my old email, I find an invitation to see the band here in Rochester back in November when they were opening for Sarah Harmer. I’m certain I had a good reason to not be in attendance, but this song makes me sad that I didn’t make it. Although if they played this track in mid-November, it may have felt even more cruel at the outset of winter than it does now with the changing of seasons at least on the horizon.
The band has a bunch of dates lined up starting next month – all across North America, and then a handful of dates in Australia with City and Colour; head to their website to find the complete list.
