I’ll be the first to admit that we just missed on this one. Hailing from Bologna, Italy, A Classic Education plays the kind of indie rock that we were all schooled on, before we became merciless music bloggers, constantly on the hunt for a new band to latch on to.

“Baby, It’s Fine” is from the band’s album Call It Blazing, which was released this past October. It’s a short tune, not even reaching the 2.5 minute mark, but it’s effective in its brevity, with the sort of downer ambiance that indie bands are given to. The song is contagious in its own right, finishing sooner than you’d want, but making its mark with an almost Smiths-like sad pop.

The band is about to head out on an extensive North American tour that will take them into the middle of April before they’re finished. That tour includes a stop in Buffalo, opening for Cloud Nothings on April 2, which, despite the fact that it’s on a Monday, is just tempting enough to make me want to buy tickets.

Someday my children will figure out their own musical taste; A Classic Education would be a fine place for them to start. Call It Blazing is out now on Lefse Records.
