This song, from Fort Collins, Colorado band Candy Claws, was sent around to the blogs prior to Christmas, and it was billed as a holiday song. And while it could be a holiday song just based on the form of precipitation it references, we didn’t have any snow for Christmas this year. (In fact, the first significant snowfall in Rochester happened yesterday/is happening now.)
The song itself is indicative of what the band does if you hadn’t heard them previously, like I hadn’t. There are hushed vocals, a lighter feel to the actual music. In fact, “Snow Face” doesn’t feel particularly winter-related at all. It feels like the end of spring, when everything’s opening up again. And as I face the prospect of going out to brush the snow off of my car, that reminder is completely fine with me.
Candy Claws has an extensive amount of releases available for streaming and/or purchasing at their Bandcamp page, from other wintery themed tracks to a trio of full length albums. There’s much to explore if you’re partial to the band’s wistful dream pop.
