[mp3] Breakfast In Fur // Shine

breakfast in fur EP cover [mp3] Breakfast In Fur // Shine

I had intended to write about New Paltz band Breakfast In Fur after I got their EP from Matt over at Analog Edition, but it got put off, and I never ended up doing it. But with the band out on tour now, and stopping at Bug Jar here in Rochester tomorrow night, discussing the EP seems appropriate again.

The band’s self-titled EP is a five-song, folk influenced release; fans of long defunct Baltimore outfit Page France (of which I can be counted) will enjoy it thoroughly; it has many of the same hallmarks of Page France’s Chariot – breathless vocals, curious arrangements, off-kilter percussion.

Breakfast In Fur sounds, at various points throughout the EP’s twenty minutes, that a strong gust blew through the room where the band was recording and set everything down in slightly different places. Things feel alternately new and differently textured on the EP, although at its heart it could be considered a familiar, folky formula. The EP is nuanced, and repeated listens shed light on its dustier corners and oddly placed sounds.

If you’re around Rochester tomorrow night, the band will be playing at Bug Jar; doors for the show open at 8, music starts at 9 or so.  To get primed for the show, head to the band’s Bandcamp page and get the entire EP for free.  And once you’re hooked, head to Analog Edition to get a copy of the EP on 10” vinyl.
