Local Natives

Earlier in the year I listened to Vetiver’s “Everyday” on constant repeat, Dave is currently experiencing it with Phoenix’s “1901” and this morning I’m starting in on a new one – “Airplanes” by Local Natives.  It’s picked me up, shook me around and has yet to put me back down.

One of the band members has a blog where they post pictures from their shows and detail their shenanigans (you know, that place with all the shit on the walls).  The most intriguing post was that they recorded a Daytrotter session, but it won’t be up until March.  And so far, no, it’s not up.  I’ll be keeping my eye on you, Daytrotter.

The band’s MySpace has a couple more streaming songs in addition to “Airplanes,” as well as a Talking Heads cover, and a video of them doing “Cecilia” of Simon & Garfunkel fame, with the percussion done on trees in the yard where the song was filmed.  These are guys I can get behind.

As for shows, they have 6 listed, 4 of which are at SXSW, and the other two are in California.  They’re primarily Left Coast.

After the song, you can check the video for “Airplanes,” which was recorded in an NYC loft, and this version is particularly arresting.  It’s a testament to a band that is extremely talented, and draws you in from the very first listen.

I concurred. Twice. They just wrapped a residency at silverlake lounge. See them, hear them, now.
