We just got the Jónsi album this week, though I haven’t actually listened to it yet. This cover he performed of MGMT’s ‘Time To Pretend’ live on BBC was all the rage a few weeks ago in the blogosphere. I don’t think the cover is all that special, though I can see the appeal to some. I do enjoy his work as Sigur Rós’ frontman, but generally when I do listen to them, it seems to be in limited doses. On the other hand, this track seems like he is trying a bit too hard to fit this song within his own aesthetic, and I just don’t think the song works in that way. The original conveys the exuberance of rock star idiocy and living it up – fitting the message of the song. While this cover just sounds like some guy who is almost ready for bed. But maybe that’s just me.
