inverness [mp3] Introducing // Inverness

If I told you to embark on an internet quest to locate Inverness, the band I’m writing about today, I can tell you you’d have a bloody hard time of it. Not only do they have one of those names that’s almost impossible to Google effectively, but there are two other bands, according the Last FM, with the same name. Also, these guys operate out of São Paulo in Brazil, which is roughly 12236.351 miles away from the Scottish city whose name they’ve taken.

Thankfully, I managed to overcome these various obstacles in order to comprehend the rather fantastic Brazilian four piece, made up of Lucas de Almeida, Mateus Perito, Flavio Fraschett and Mario Barcha. They’ve released three EPs since 2009, the most recent and high profile of which is Somewhere I Can Hear My Heart Beating, released in October last year. They specialise in all out tropical awesomeness, chucking in samba rhythms and blissful washes of keyboard like they’re going out of fashion.

[mp3] Inverness // A Summer’s Night Lullaby

“A Summer Night’s Lullaby” is a golden example of this. It hits a mark somewhere between Animal Collective and Friendly Fires, with bit of Jonsi if he were to ever attend a pool party. It opens up with euphoric tropical swirls and drums with this soaring flute line chirping out of nowhere like some multicoloured tropical bird arcing over a Brazilian beach. Hazy vocals wash in eventually, over the top of some funky acoustic guitar that furthers my already rampant wishes for the summer to be here. It’s pretty damn lush and lives up to its exotic name. Can’t believe it’s a B-side!

The band’s material is available via Bandcamp, and I think there’s an album in the works. Hopefully it will arrive in time for the summer!
