I’m not sure what I expected when I first heard Aerial. The band hails from Sweden, and – based on my readings of Chuck Klosterman and general knowledge of music – I expected more of a sludge metal sound than their melodic post-rock. Not that I’m complaining; the band’s sound is right in my wheelhouse. Lots of noise, not too scream-ish.
“Vacant Dreamers” starts with a crash of instruments, not wasting any musical time. The song moves from noise rock to something quieter, then builds back into a blast of sound. Sonically, I’m reminded of the first Dear and The Headlights album, but vocally it’s a little more abrasive. That’s not a bad thing.
Their most recent album – Put It This Way In Headlines – is out now via No Method Records.
