Portland, Oregon’s Horse Feathers are perfecters of melodic ukulele-soaked Americana hymns. Florid with other selectively used instrumentation, the band has a subtle country twang that is entirely palatable for those who may be opposed to that sort of thing. Praise such as this, coming from a writer with decidedly unfavorable views towards most Americana music such as yours truly, is high praise indeed.

To my mind, the best Horse Feathers song is one entitled “Heathen’s Kiss,” from 2008′s House With No Home. The song was featured in the incredible Fx show “Justified,” which is set in the mountains of Kentucky. A better, more suitable song could not have been chosen by the show’s music editor to match the southern, yet urban undertones of the series. I’ve embedded an impeccable sounding live rendition of the song below. If you haven’t heard it before, go buy it.

The band is playing two shows at NxNE, both on Saturday the 18th of June. The first is at Rivoli mid-afternoon, while the second is later on that evening in the early morning hours of the 19th at the very hip Dakota Tavern.
