The original of this track has slowly become my favorite Florence and The Machine song since I got my copy of Lungs last year. I listen to it constantly because I run to it; it’s upbeat and keeps me focused on the task at hand, which is good for me because I generally dislike running.
And then I heard this remix by Short Club, and it’s a completely different song. Gone are the soaring, wrenching vocals from the original, the immense feeling of the music. It’s all been scaled back, and I’m not certain that’s a good thing. It starts off like it’s going to be even more haunting (although I’m not sure that’s even possible), with an acoustic guitar, but then it morphs into a kind of middling recreation of the track.
You’ll have to listen for yourself. Don’t take my distaste for it as gospel. It might be that I’m so enamored with the original that any new spin would be met with similar disdain.
