A quick check for her on Hype Machine reveals that people have been talking about Ellie Goulding long before I ever found this song, and a lot more people have loved it before I got into it. That’s really neither here nor there, because I am into it right now, and that’s the point. I could hear a song from The Beatles for the first time today, or Leadbelly or Mozart, and the love I might feel for it wouldn’t be tainted simply because I was 50, 100 or 400 years late.
And that’s the beauty of music, isn’t it? There will never be enough time to listen to all the songs I want to, and there is still so much that I have yet to discover. Ellie Goulding may not be as enduring as the artists I mentioned before, but for today, she’s done right by me.
