Best of 2009: Dave’s 111 Most Enjoyed Songs, Part Important

photo2 225x300 Best of 2009: Daves 111 Most Enjoyed Songs, Part ImportantForget those two first parts, these are the real best songs of 2009. In my estimation that is. I think most if not all, were released in 2009, but those that were not came into my consciousness at one point during the year. Andy will have his list prepared for tomorrow and then we should be done with this crap and back to your regularly scheduled programming. Or not, we shall see. 34. White Denim – I Start To Run
33. The xx – Crystalised
32. Kid Cudi – Simple As…
31. Real Estate – Atlantic City
30. Grizzly Bear – Fine For Now
29. Passion Pit – Folds In Your Hand
28. Dan Black – Symphonies (Passion Pit Remix)

25. Surfer Blood – Swim (To Reach The End)
24. The xx – Hot Like Fire (mp3)
23. The Temper Trap – Sweet Disposition
22. The Twang – Two Lovers (Mint Royale Remix) (mp3)
For the many who may have not heard this, just try and dislike it.
21. Passion Pit – The Reeling
20. Girls – Lust For Life
I struggled with where to place this song. I thought it would be higher, and perhaps it should be. But its placement does not detract from how much I love it.
19. Bombay Bicycle Club – The Hill
18. Grizzly Bear – While You Wait For The Others
17. Bombay Bicycle Club – Autumn
16. Washed Out – Feel It All Around
15. Discovery – Swing Tree
14. The Dodos – Fables
13. Kid Cudi – Day ‘N’ Nite (Nightmare)
12. Local Natives – Airplanes
I’ll leave the flattery of this for Andy.

11. Bon Iver & St. Vincent – Roslyn (mp3)
Another entry into the beauty that defines Justin Vernon’s work. Only enhanced by the contributions of Annie Clark.

10. Bombay Bicycle Club – Always Like This
Hard to pick the best off this amazing record.

9. The Static Jacks – My Parents Lied
I start this song over, at least once, every time I hear it.

8. Atlas Sound – Shelia
Without a doubt the catchiest chorus including a woman’s name this year, high up there all time for me.

7. Grizzly Bear – Ready, Able
My wife’s favorite song off this record, and very closely second for me.

6. Phoenix – 1901
If my hard drive hadn’t crashed, I believe this would have the highest play count in iTunes for the year.

5. Florence + The Machine – Cosmic Love
My favorite on this album from day one. I’m glad it’s getting love from our friends as well.

4. Mew – Introducing Palace Players (mp3)
It almost sounds like they are doing everything wrong, except perfectly.

3. Atlas Sound – Walkabout [W/ Noah Lennox]
Only in a year such as this would this song only be the third best in my eyes.

2. Animal Collective – My Girls
One of the greatest songs of the decade, but it can’t beat my number one.

1. Grizzly Bear – Two Weeks (mp3)
Just simply perfection. A perfect pop song that exemplifies incredible song writing chops, technical ability and wonderful vocal evocation.

I just want to agree about the Mew track–your assessment is right on and well-put. The beat is so off, so messed up, yet so incredibly funky. I don’t know how to say it any better than you did. But it’s fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm really into The Twang so I'm glad you mentioned them :) I was trying to find bands similar to them. I came across this new band also from Liverpool called Sound of Guns, don't know if you've heard of them. I'd really recommend them. Here is their official site-
