5. Phoenix – Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix
Andy : 8 :: Dave : 6
To say the least, 2009 must have been an interesting year for Phoenix. Including a stint on Saturday Night Live and sound-tracking a luxury car commercial, the band has finally made it into the collective consciousness of the American public despite having been around for some time. It’s possible to make the claim that this may not even be the best album the French quartet has released. But it certainly helps to have songs as catchy yet so incredibly good as ’1901′. When brand new fans of this record are lamenting that the song was sold for the aforementioned luxury car commercial, you know they’ve made an incredible impact.
Phoenix encapsulates multiple genres within the ten taut and impressive songs here, and nary a dud can be located. Almost without a doubt the most remixed album of the year, if you haven’t seen a ton of them you haven’t been looking. So, if you’ve been under a rock, make sure you listen to this before the remix record.
