When I first heard of Beach House last year, it was in the same breath as Fleet Foxes – drawing comparisons between the two groups. I never heard more than a single song (“Gila”) from their second album Devotion (and none from their debut), but that single cut didn’t remind me of Fleet Foxes in the slightest. And it didn’t register enough to warrant any further listening.
But with their new single – the breathless “Norway” – I’m intrigued. There’s a current that runs through the track – an obvious buzz that moves in and out of the foreground of the track. It gives a base to the track’s airy vocals and jangly guitars. Beach House’s new album – Teen Dream – is due out in January 2010, and it’s their first for Sub Pop. It’ll be one to look out for if “Norway” is any indication.

No, I don’t really see the link between Beach House and Fleet Foxes – other that their both of a quite whimsical aesthetic. But Beach House is much darker.
And in a way that is not connected, but kinda is somehow, you should check out Bear Driver.
