My brother moved to Houston, TX last September. For his birthday, before he left to go back to Houston in March, I gave him an iPod Shuffle and had him fill it from my collection. He went through, grabbed all the Kings of Leon, a bunch of other stuff he knew, and then left the rest up to me to fill. Every once in a while I get a text from him asking about a particular song that he doesn’t know, plus the Shuffle obviously can’t tell him – at least the version of it he has can’t.
Last Wednesday afternoon this conversation ensued via text:
Him: Whos the band on my iPod with the song that goes “That’s 2009?”
Me: Tokyo Police Club
Him: Word. I really like that song.
Me: Robots will blow you apart. Watch out for that.
Him: Yeah that part kinda sucks, but at least the soundtrack’s good.
Me: Only a couple months left! It’s gonna happen! I hope you heeded their words like I did.
Him: Nope. I’m fuckt.
Me: I’ll at least see you when you’re torn apart by robots. Don’t your limbs land in front of me?
Him: Yup. And you’re going to wail and weep, but the robots will keep you at bay. That’s some cruel shit man. Fuckin’ robots.
Me: I wish you’d heard the song sooner.
Him: So much heartbreak could’ve been prevented.
Me: Next life, when your older brother tells you something is good, it behooves you to listen.
It behooves you all to listen as well.

I never listened to my older brother, and I’m just fine!
