1000 Minutes: Dave #47

No verbose ramblings this morning, just go here for my complete list and to understand what we are doing if you don’t already.

95. Bloc Party – Hunting for Witches (Crystal Castles remix) (mp3) (4:57) [Time Remaining: 610:09]

Never has a remix spoken to me quite like this does. It doesn’t hurt that the original is by what I would consider one of my favorite bands. The main component of this song is a reworked bit of the guitars from the original, so while not being completely sonically original itself, it still blows my mind with how good it is. I can’t precisely describe why I love this song so much, but I fucking love it.

96. Bloc Party – This Modern Love (mp3) (4:25) [Time Remaining: 605:44]
97. Bloc Party – So Here We Are (mp3) (3:52) [Time Remaining: 601:48]
Both songs from Silent Alarm

As I have mentioned before, the way I listen to music has changed since I began writing about it. I think the overwhelming amount of music I take in has prevented me, though only slightly, from finding a ‘favorite’ album in the last few years. Over the time I have been able to purchase my own music I would state I have had several of these favorites. I could list them here but I won’t. My point in bringing this up is that Silent Alarm is likely the most enduring of what I would, and did consider a favorite album. Others have faded over time, but the fact I can still return to this album and just absolutely love it still is impressive to me. The album, and these songs in particular, attack a variety of subjects in multiple interesting ways with big hooks and smart percussion. It isn’t just one element of these songs that makes me love them, it’s damn near everything. These two will make three from Silent Alarm on this list, I don’t know for certain if any more will make the final cut, but if any do I won’t be surprised.

I just came across this post from the Hype Machine and just wanted to say that I feel the EXACT same way about everything you said. If I could only listen to one album for the rest of my life, it would be Silent Alarm. I will now have to check out and follow the rest of your 1000 minute playlist. Rock on.

Why, thank you. Glad you found us.
