1000 Minutes: Dave #25

As you may notice, we have removed the Essential Albums page from the blog. Andy and I both wrote two relatively early, but then lost interest in doing more. We also didn’t think there was much interest out there in others reading about what albums we thought were essential. So it’s gone. We are formulating plans to add another page of some sort. In the meantime, here is my latest 1000 Minutes.

50. The La’s – There She Goes (mp3) from The La’s (2:42) [Time Remaining: 793:00]

Today I am going with two early-nineties classics. Both have seen somewhat of a resurgence, either having been covered for a film soundtrack, or used in a soundtrack itself. I recall listening to both, yet again, on BER when I was younger and loving them. Neither song’s luster has faded over time and mainstreaming. The La’s There She Goes is a beautiful song that easily fit into my early impressions of love. I love the guitar parts and the vocals and the drums all the same. For me this is just about as close to a perfect song as you can get, despite it being an incredibly simple tune. And it isn’t about heroin, as far as I’m concerned.

51. James – Laid (mp3) from Laid (2:36) [Time Remaining: 790:24]

This song is rather hilarious, and always surprising to me when played on mainstream radio. I don’t think that anyone is paying attention to the lyrics, though I can see that being easy since it is catchy as hell. The hilariousness only adds to my enjoyment of the song itself.

    Two absolutely brilliant choices! :)

Both will feature in my list (infact one already has!)
