1000 Minutes: Andy #47

I had a different version of this installment written up, but then the first song here came up, and made everything else take a backseat.  So, I guess I have next week’s post ready to go.  If you’re new around here (welcome!) make sure to check out the backstory here, and if you’ve been watching since the start, good for you for being so cutting edge.  Let’s get into it:

95. Rekid – Next Stop Chicago (mp3) from Next Stop Chicago 12″ (6:55) [Time Remaining: 554:46]

I was never a big fan of dancing.  I mean, I like it just fine if I’ve had enough to drink – and have no problem indiscriminately shaking my ass when I’m a half a dozen drinks in – but I have no idea what the hell I’m doing.  I’m sure if I were on the outside observing, I’d seem far less awesome than I imagine myself to be in the moment.  But that awareness doesn’t stop me from enjoying it.

This particular song makes me kind of wish I had been involved in the house scene, because I’m sure it’s a floor filler.  Each time it comes on, I have to listen to it three times at minimum.  It is absolutely unstoppable, and though I may never dance to it anywhere other than my living room, I know that it’s a track that my collection would be incomplete without.

96. Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings – How Long Do I Have To Wait For You? (mp3) from Naturally (4:04) [Time Remaining: 550:42]

You can’t fight the funk.  It’s best not to try.  I gave myself over to it a long time ago, and I’ve been much happier since.

I'm still a bit miffed that I didn't make it out to Water Street for the Sharon Jones + Dap Kings. That is a great song posted there. That had to be a fun show….

I missed it too, and my girlfriend is still giving me grief.
