In case you have still not given Veckatimest a chance and have not listened to the album, this is not a bad way to be introduced. Check out this stunning live rendition on Letterman’s late night program of yet another standout track from the album.
In WTF? News, the actor who played Stringer Bell on HBO’s highly acclaimed series The Wire (and, more recently, a brief run as Charles on The Office, or Beyonce’s man in Obsessed), is preparing to release an album later on this year. NME is reporting that Idris Elba (better knows as Driis is music circles) will release a single called “Please Be True” in July, and a full length later in 2009.
Judging what’s already been released, he should probably use his talents for acting and leave the music to Cheese. The beat itself isn’t terrible, but his voice makes me want to use his character’s product.
My girlfriend was out of town on Monday, so we didn’t watch the new episode of Chuck until Tuesday, and all I had was questions. Will Chuck ever get The Intersect out of his head? That bitch of a general says no, but I’m certain that crafty Charles Carmichael will find a way to make it happen. Then he’ll probably have to abort that at the last second to save bumbling Morgan, or Awesome and Ellie, or, more predictably, Sarah, who is the biggest blue-balls giving shrew this side of Tyra (at least as far as Landry is concerned) on Friday Night Lights.
I watch too much TV.
Not a big night for music on the show, but at the end, they used the following:
That’s not a misspelling of the album title either, but if you slow it down, you can see that the title is “The Free EP,” which you can get for yourself in its entirety right here.
Also, does anyone else watch the show Life? I started because I like Damien Lewis (he was Maj. Winters in Band of Brothers) and stayed because it’s been entertaining for the most part. (And his partner is smoking hot as well.) They’re not as big on the music, but last night they used “Fiery Crash” by Andrew Bird and this one from Secret Machines.
I’m not a critic of the visual medium in the slightest sense. I like to be entertained and challenged, made to laugh and think, and while I’ll watch a movie based on reviews, I don’t always get what the fuss is about. For example, I think Ryan Gosling and Christian Bale are two of the better actors of our generation. With that said, neither Half Nelson nor The Machinist did anything for me. I was pretty disappointed in both, but maybe I missed something. (I did, on the other hand, like The United States of Leland, but it’s hard for me to remember if it was because of the movie or because Jeremy Enigk did the music for the film.)
Chuck is one of my television guily pleasures. It’s not an Arrested Development situation because it’s not genius by any stretch; it’s a fairly straightforward nerdy guy/hot chick/impossible scenario type of thing. But it entertains me for an hour on Mondays (or whenever I get around to watching it on my DVR) and it doesn’t require me to delve into complicated plot twists and turns after work. I like that.
More importantly (and apropos of this blog), the music supervisor for the show is excellent. Here are two of the tracks used in last night’s show, and check the show’s website for a more complete look at what they get down on.

Basically, it sounded like a cool name for a blog intended to be primarily about music. We’d both had other blogs previously, but over beers it was decided that more damage could be done as a joint venture. And here we are.
We share a passion for the undiscovered and under-appreciated, and hope that you’ll be able to find something you love as well.

I like music. I can't describe how I came to like the music I do, because I don't know how or why, I just do.
Many years ago, Napoleon's brother, my great-great-great-great-great-great Grandfather, came to America. He was asked his name on Ellis Island while being processed as an immigrant. Not understanding English, he was under the impression that he was being asked how he had arrived in the new land. So he turned around and pointed at the sea vessel and said, 'LaBarge.'

I come by my music taste of my own free will. My friends listened to 2Pac, my parents to contemporary Christian and me? Sunny Day Real Estate. I can’t explain it.
