I saw this video and was caught by the narrative. I enjoyed the premise and think it has an intriguing noir-ish feel to it. I also enjoyed the song, though I’m not certain if I liked the two conjoined more so than I otherwise would. This is my first introduction to the band so I can’t tell you much about them other than that their most recent album [La La Land] was released a few weeks ago and includes the song in the video. Check it out if you feel so inclined.
Today’s installment in mildly-annoyed chick music with a retro 60′s feel is from California’s quartet of ladies’ with a bland name, The Like. Mark Ronson produced the band’s forthcoming album Release Me, due out mid June. If you like today’s song, it’s possible for you to grab another track for the low-low price of your email address at the band’s website here. In the meantime check out the track to see if it captures your fancy.
I got an email today with a link to download Champ in it’s entirety well prior to the actual release date due to my pre-order for a vinyl copy promising a digital download. I’ll be honest, if by the conclusion of this year I don’t love this album enough to place it within the top five of my inevitable best albums list, I will feel let down. I often have conflicted feelings when new albums are released by bands whose previous work I completely adored. I always feel trepidation in regards to what to expect. Do I want it to sound the same or close enough to hit the same buttons its predecessor did? Do I wish for a step forward artistically if it means I’ll like it less for some reason? I suppose that I always want the proverbial step forward to coincide with familiarity and enjoyment, though that is a rare feat. Perhaps my expectations are set too high in general and I over-think things, but I really hope this one doesn’t let me down.

We were asked to participate in some manner with this benefit show being put on by Hank & Cupcakes for Beyond Race Magazine, but once again our proximity to NYC being less than desirable came in the way of our participation. We were asked if we could put up a post about it, and I am doing so because the promo video is, well, interesting. This is a somewhat family friendly blog, but it’s still probably not all that safe for work. So here are those infamous letters to warn you.(NSFW) But anyways, if you live in NYC, check it out.
I know how I just recently spoke of The Futureheads and mentioned they are not a band I often come back to, despite my great enjoyment of one of their songs. Then I enjoyed two things that made me come back anyways. First, I heard the track I am posting today and liked it well enough. It’s what I would expect from the band – snappy, upbeat pop with a decidedly British feel (It’s the vocals). Second, and more importantly, I learned the band had the great vision to add future stars (and – at this point – Tympanogram friends?) The Static Jacks as openers for a few shows. Great choice fellas. But be sure to bring your A-game to those dates, you don’t want to be shown up by the opener.

Basically, it sounded like a cool name for a blog intended to be primarily about music. We’d both had other blogs previously, but over beers it was decided that more damage could be done as a joint venture. And here we are.
We share a passion for the undiscovered and under-appreciated, and hope that you’ll be able to find something you love as well.

I like music. I can't describe how I came to like the music I do, because I don't know how or why, I just do.
Many years ago, Napoleon's brother, my great-great-great-great-great-great Grandfather, came to America. He was asked his name on Ellis Island while being processed as an immigrant. Not understanding English, he was under the impression that he was being asked how he had arrived in the new land. So he turned around and pointed at the sea vessel and said, 'LaBarge.'

I come by my music taste of my own free will. My friends listened to 2Pac, my parents to contemporary Christian and me? Sunny Day Real Estate. I can’t explain it.
